...drawing a Blank...

Working in a representational style and
referencing issues such as aging, women, menopause, suburbia, society
and relationships, Catherine Blank’s drawings are narratives of life events. In
the spirit of her two-year-old grandson, who tells only the punch line
of a joke before laughing uproariously, she tells a portion of the story
-- leaving the viewer to fill in the rest ... aided at times by the title
of the work. “The big things, the tragedies and joys, shape our lives, our views and our understanding.” Blank says. “But it is the little things -- the small moments of happiness, frustration and humour, the fleeting glimpses of the sublime found in the oddest places, that make life worthwhile.”. She pauses. “For me, life is like a drawing -- it’s keeping the balance of light and dark ..." Catherine received her degree, with First Class Honours, in Visual Arts from Brock University and has exhibited in Canada, Europe and the United States. more... |
